Thanks to everyone who participated in LDS Environmental Survey! The results are available here.
Only the results of the individual questions are currently available, correlated results are not yet available. So for instance, you will be able to see how many survey takers were from Australia, but you won't be able to see how they answered the other questions. In the upcoming weeks (months?) we hope to upload additional analysis, including possible correlations between demographic characteristics and environmental thought.
The data does not represent a random sample. So just because 30% or so of the survey takers are politically moderate, that percentage is meaningless for any other group of people.
There is a wide spectrum of views out there. Just look at the data.
My favorite responses came from the political identity question. One of the respondents claimed to be a "Jedi" politically. Another responder wrote that they do not belong to any political ideology, but rather they take good from wherever they find it. I couldn't agree more.

Patrick Moore, one of the original founder's of Greenpeace has stated, on the record, that the modern environmentalist movement is not so much concerned about the environment as it is about promoting socialism.
We have a great responsibility to take care of the earth and its resources. But if we fall prey to the political nature of the discussion, ignoring reality and real truth, then we'll be pawns in someone else's political games.
I am not saying that we don't have an impact on the earth--we do. "For the earth is full, and there is enough and to spare..." We are to be wise stewards, not ignorant fools.
The most scary graph was the response to those who thought "An Inconvenient Truth" was fact.

Thanks for stopping by. I checked out the link. But to be frank, all the science talk goes right over my head. Blaa-blaa-blaa. I did notice that the author was an out of work "mineral exploration" financier, not exactly a credible source.
There is "science" out there to support any and all attitudes about the climate. I stay away from climate talk on this blog...there are so many other reasons to care for the environment.
I am unfamiliar with statements by Mr. Moore, but I do agree that the much of the environmental movement is too politicized. This has the negative effect of painting all environmentalists as extreme. There is so much middle ground for pragmatic types. Too bad the extremists on both sides aren't willing to see it.
The survey data showed that the LDS community is concerned about the environment. That is refreshing to see. But are we wise or ignorant? Probably a lot of both.
As for the attitudes towards "An Inconvenient Truth"...I can't say, I haven't seen the movie. I know intelligent people who fall on both sides of fence.
I always find it interesting to see how people think and what they find important. I can't wait to see the rest of the survey results.
